CURRICULUM VITAE

EDUCATION

Photograph by Beatrice Bankauskaite

2024 Ph.D. in Journalism, University of Missouri

2015   M.A. in Journalism, Regent University

In 2007, I was half way through a biography of President Abraham Lincoln I borrowed from the public library when I realized that for all my learning from this book it would never “count” in the way formal education counts. So, that same week I returned the book to the library and took advantage of tuition assistance provided by the U.S. Army by signing up for college. While this decision set me on an adventure of obtaining formal education, it is now, at the completion of earning a terminal degree, that I value more than ever all the learning, the reading, the thinking, the connecting that has gone on outside of credit hours that “count” as education. I would love to have a conversation with you about the informal education I have earned that, though it will never lead to a degree or a line on this CV, has been invaluable in my growth and what I offer as a leader, mentor, teacher, and researcher.
