Visual Analysis & Visual Rhetoric


Course Catalog Description

Course designed for students to focus the primacy of sight to both learn about the world and to transmit visual messages in the world. This methodologically based course will benefit students taking courses in journalism, art, design, communication, advertising, public relations and other studies interpreting or creating visual messages.

Course Overview

This course will take students out of the classroom and into the world of things that can be seen and the creation of thing to be seen. Students learn methods from sketching to analytical writing for deeply exploring a wide variety of objects to inquire into their purpose, creation, intended message, received message, and cultural context.

Course Learning Outcomes

Students are able to draw upon a toolkit of visual methods to analyze objects and visual messages existing in the world and deepen their own meaning filled creations and messages.
